If you want to vote in elections and referendums you must be on the electoral register. You only need to register once - you don't need to register separately for every election.

  • You must register again if you've changed address, name or nationality.
  • You are not automatically registered to vote even if you have registered to pay council tax.

To check whether you are already registered, please contact Electoral Services:

More information about voting

More information about individual electoral registration is available on the Electoral Commission website.

When you apply to join the register, your personal details will have to be verified against other records held by central government before you are added to the register.

If you cannot be verified this way you may be asked to provide more evidence, which could delay you being added to the register of electors.
